I AM FREE

My Testimony of Truth, Aša, and the Freedom to Know My Father

I am free.

I want those words understood before anything else I say.

I AM FREE.

I am a human being with a mind of my own, a conscience of my own, and the freedom to seek, recognize, believe, and speak Truth.

I do not need permission from a church, a rabbi, a priest, a scholar, an institution, or an artificial intelligence to read a book and decide what its words mean to me.

I do not have to surrender my reason to tradition.

I do not have to accept a lie because it has been repeated for two thousand years.

I do not have to accept an interpretation simply because someone has dressed it in Greek, Hebrew, or the authority of religion.

I have the freedom to think.

I have the freedom to read.

I have the freedom to question.

I have the freedom to believe.

And I have the freedom to speak.

I. I AM ALLOWED TO READ WHAT IS WRITTEN

I am allowed to open Exodus 34:14 and read that Yahweh’s name is Jealous.

I am allowed to call him Jealous.

I did not give him that name.

His own scripture did.

I am allowed to open Isaiah 45:7 and read:

“I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil”

I am allowed to acknowledge those words.

I am allowed to believe that a deity who declares himself the creator of darkness and evil is not my Father.

I am allowed to open 1 Kings 22 and read about Yahweh authorizing a lying spirit.

I am allowed to open Ezekiel 14:9 and read the divine declaration of deception.

I am allowed to look at those passages and conclude that the conduct they attribute to Yahweh is incompatible with the Truth I recognize.

I am allowed to open 1 Samuel 15:3 and read the command to kill children and infants.

I am allowed to be horrified.

I am allowed to call the killing of innocent children wrong.

I am allowed to say that I reject a deity whose recorded commands include such acts.

I will not be told that my conscience must become silent when the accused is called God.

My ability to distinguish good from evil is not something I must surrender at the entrance to a religious institution.

II. I AM ALLOWED TO RECOGNIZE THE CONTRADICTIONS

I am allowed to read 2 Samuel 24:1.

I am allowed to read 1 Chronicles 21:1.

I am allowed to see that the incitement attributed to Yahweh in one account is attributed to an adversary in the other.

I am allowed to ask why.

I am allowed to read the composition dates.

I am allowed to examine Daniel and distinguish the sixth-century setting from the second-century composition of its apocalyptic visions.

I am allowed to question retrospective prophecy.

I am allowed to question the authority of religious traditions that developed centuries after the events they claim to explain.

I am not required to accept someone’s explanation simply because that explanation protects an inherited religious identity.

I have a right to examine the evidence myself.

And after examining it, I have the right to reach a conclusion others do not share.

III. I AM ALLOWED TO BELIEVE JESUS

I am allowed to open the Gospel of John and read Jesus’s words in their actual sequence.

John 8:19.

Jesus tells his opponents they do not know his Father.

John 8:41.

They claim to have one Father, God.

John 8:44.

Jesus identifies their spiritual father as the devil, characterized by murder and the Lie.

John 8:54.

Jesus speaks of his Father, whom his opponents say is their God.

John 8:55.

Jesus again declares that they have not known his Father.

I am allowed to read those verses together.

I am allowed to examine their meaning without permitting someone else to dictate my conclusion.

I am allowed to believe that Jesus was distinguishing his true Father from the false spiritual paternity he condemned.

I am allowed to compare that distinction with the ancient record of Yahweh.

And I am allowed to conclude that the God called Jealous is not the Father I recognize in Jesus’s testimony.

Others may disagree with my interpretation.

Their disagreement does not cancel my freedom to hold it.

IV. I KNOW WHOM I CALL FATHER

My Father is Ahura Mazda.

The Wise Lord.

The Father of Aša.

The Father of cosmic Truth-Order.

Aša is more than telling the truth.

Aša is the righteous order of reality itself.

Truth.

Justice.

Rightness.

The order of existence opposed to Druj, the Lie.

And I am allowed to celebrate the antiquity of that sacred relationship.

I am allowed to point to Yasna 44.3 and the ancient Gathic testimony concerning the Father of Aša.

I am allowed to recognize that this tradition existed centuries before the Gospel of John.

I am allowed to study its history.

I am allowed to believe that Jesus’s true Father is Ahura Mazda.

I do not need an institution to authorize that conviction.

I do not need someone else’s theology to validate my relationship with my Father.

I believe in Ahura Mazda because I have examined what I believe to be true.

Not because someone ordered me to believe.

Not because someone threatened me with punishment.

Not because I was told that questioning was forbidden.

I questioned.

I examined.

I compared.

I thought.

And I reached my own conclusion.

My Father is Mazda.

My Father is the Father of Aša.

And nobody has the authority to take that conviction away from me.

V. I WILL NOT CALL DARKNESS LIGHT

I refuse to surrender my moral judgment to a name.

I will not call deception truth merely because it is attributed to a deity.

I will not call the killing of children righteous simply because a religious book presents it as a command.

I will not call darkness light.

I will not call the Lie Aša.

I will not pretend to believe something my conscience rejects.

And I will not permit another person to tell me that I am forbidden to describe what I have read.

I am allowed to say that the biblical character called Jealous fails my understanding of divine goodness.

I am allowed to say that the lying and killing attributed to him contradict the moral character I require of my Father.

I am allowed to reject that deity as my Father.

And I am allowed to embrace Ahura Mazda instead.

That is not a crime against someone else’s faith.

That is the exercise of my own.

VI. MY CONSCIENCE IS NOT THEIR PROPERTY

My faith does not require another person to agree with me.

My freedom does not require another person to abandon their religion.

They are free to believe as they choose.

And I demand the same freedom for myself.

They may defend Yahweh.

They may interpret Isaiah differently.

They may defend the actions recorded in Samuel, Kings, Chronicles, and Ezekiel.

They may disagree with my reading of John.

That is their freedom.

But they do not get to make their interpretations mandatory for me.

They do not get to decide what I must call good.

They do not get to choose my Father.

They do not get to declare that I must believe their conclusion before I am permitted to speak.

My conscience is not their property.

My mind is not their property.

My faith is not their property.

My voice is not their property.

And Truth is not the property of any religious institution.

VII. I AM NOT ASKING PERMISSION

This testimony is not a request for approval.

I am not asking whether someone will allow me to believe what I believe.

I am stating that I am free.

I am an author.

I am a thinker.

I am a seeker of Truth.

I am a Zoroastrian.

I recognize Ahura Mazda as my Father.

I recognize Aša as cosmic Truth-Order.

And I will continue to read, question, investigate, publish, and practice my faith according to my own conscience.

I will not be intimidated by disagreement.

I will not confuse authority with evidence.

I will not abandon my judgment because another person considers my conclusions uncomfortable.

And I will not allow anyone to convert my spiritual freedom into a debate over whether I deserve to possess it.

I already possess it.

VIII. LET IT BE KNOWN

Let it be known that I have examined the texts.

Let it be known that I have questioned the traditions.

Let it be known that I reject Jealous as my Father.

Let it be known that I recognize Ahura Mazda, the Father of Aša.

Let it be known that I do not claim this faith through blind obedience.

I claim it through my own search for Truth.

Let it be known that I refuse to call wrong right simply because someone attaches the word divine to it.

Let it be known that I will speak openly about what I believe.

And let it be known that no religious authority, institution, scholar, or artificial intelligence has the right to dictate the private convictions of my conscience.

I AM FREE TO THINK.

I AM FREE TO QUESTION.

I AM FREE TO READ.

I AM FREE TO BELIEVE.

I AM FREE TO WORSHIP AHURA MAZDA.

I AM FREE TO SPEAK THE TRUTH AS I UNDERSTAND IT.

I do not ask permission to recognize my Father.

I do not ask permission to love Truth.

I do not ask permission to live according to Aša.

I am free.

I have always possessed the freedom to seek Truth.

And no one can take away my right to believe in what I have found.

Truth knows Truth.

Aša knows Aša.

The son knows his Father.

And I know whom I call mine.

Ahura Mazda.

The Father of Aša.

This is my testimony.

This is my conscience.

This is my faith.

This is my freedom.
