I am done pretending this timeline is complicated.
It is only complicated when somebody needs Daniel to be six hundred years older than he is.
Before Daniel ever put resurrection into the Hebrew Bible, Mazda already had the architecture.
Truth.
The Lie.
Judgment.
Good Mind.
The righteous path.
The wicked path.
Best existence.
Worst existence.
A final victory of the good.
And in the Iranian tradition that develops from it: the resurrection of the dead, the Saoshyant, the defeat of evil, immortality, and the renovation of creation.
Then Judah spends centuries inside the Persian world.
And suddenly, centuries later, a book appears pretending to be written by a man living in Babylon in the sixth century BCE.
Daniel.
Except Daniel is not writing in 600 BCE.
Daniel 7–12 belongs to the Maccabean crisis.
Around 167–164 BCE.
And Daniel 11 gives the game away.
The author knows the past with supernatural precision because the “prophecy” is describing events that already happened.
Then he reaches his actual future.
And misses.
That is the fingerprint.
The Hebrew Bible’s clearest resurrection text appears inside a book speaking through an ancient mask during the second century BCE.
Daniel 12:
The dead awaken.
Some to everlasting life.
Some to everlasting contempt.
There it is.
Resurrection enters the Hebrew Bible.
Not with Moses.
Not with Abraham.
Not with David.
Not with Solomon.
Not with the early prophets.
Daniel.
Maccabean period.
After Persia.
After centuries of Iranian contact.
After the Magi were already known outside Iran for teaching that human beings would live again.
That timeline matters.
You cannot take a doctrine that becomes explicit in Hebrew scripture around 165 BCE, stuff it into Daniel’s fictional sixth-century setting, and then announce that Judaism had it before Persia.
No.
The date comes with the doctrine.
Put Daniel back where history puts Daniel.
Then look at what happens.
Mazda is standing there first.
Now follow the Lie.
This is where the whole thing gets ugly.
The older Hebrew texts do things later theology becomes uncomfortable with.
YHWH sends the lying spirit.
YHWH deceives the prophet in Ezekiel 14:9.
YHWH incites David to take the census in 2 Samuel.
Then somebody rewrites the story.
First Chronicles.
Now it is an adversary who incites David.
Same census.
Different agent.
Why?
Because something moved.
And when we audited the whole record, the result was even more precise than I expected:
the killing did not leave God.
The Lie did.
God still destroys.
God still judges.
God still kills in later scripture.
But deception?
Temptation?
Incitement to sin?
Corruption?
Those functions increasingly get pushed toward an adversarial power.
That is the evolution.
And then John gives that adversary his defining characteristic:
LIAR.
Father of the Lie.
Now tell me what Zarathustra had already named the enemy.
DRUJ.
THE LIE.
Do not tell me that is nothing.
Do not insult my intelligence.
Zoroastrianism did not need centuries of theological cleanup to figure out that Truth belongs with God and the Lie belongs against him.
Mazda is the Father of Aša.
Truth.
Right order.
The Lie is the enemy.
That architecture was already there.
Then Ezekiel makes the law problem worse.
YHWH says:
I gave them statutes that were not good.
Not good.
And laws by which they could not live.
Then:
I defiled them.
Read it.
Do not rescue it before reading it.
Then move forward.
Jesus gets challenged about Moses.
And Mark does not have Jesus say:
“Moses revealed the eternal perfect will of my Father.”
Mark has Jesus say Moses wrote that commandment because of your hardness of heart.
Because you were hard.
Because humanity had failed.
Then Jesus goes behind Moses.
Back farther.
To the beginning.
Creation first.
Later legislation second.
The primordial order outranks the accommodation.
Matthew comes afterward and makes it softer:
Moses permitted it.
But Mark is sitting there.
Moses wrote the commandment because of hardness.
And Paul goes further with the law:
It was added because of transgressions.
Added.
Because people transgressed.
And delivered through angels and a mediator.
Acts talks about the law delivered through angels.
Hebrews talks about the message spoken through angels.
The tradition is working the problem.
How close does the deficient thing stay to God?
Who carries it?
Who mediates it?
Who gets blamed?
Who gets moved?
The answers change.
And meanwhile Mazda does not need this repair job.
Aša is Aša.
Truth is Truth.
Good Mind is Good Mind.
The Lie does not originate in Mazda.
The Lie stands against the divine order.
That matters when we get to Jesus.
Now bring in resurrection.
When Jesus walks into the first century, Jews themselves are divided.
Sadducees:
No resurrection.
Pharisees:
Resurrection.
Jesus takes the resurrection side.
That does not magically make him a Pharisee.
It means he accepts the doctrine.
But now put the doctrine back on the timeline.
Where did explicit resurrection enter Hebrew scripture?
Daniel.
When?
Around 165 BCE.
What existed before Daniel?
The Iranian resurrection tradition.
Who had ruled Judah for centuries before Daniel?
Persia.
Who worshipped the Wise Lord?
The Magi.
Now open Matthew.
Who shows up at the beginning of Jesus’ life?
MAGI FROM THE EAST.
Not Roman priests.
Not Egyptian priests.
Not Greek philosophers.
Not Pharisees.
Not Sadducees.
MAGI.
They follow the sign.
They find the child.
They fall down before him.
They perform proskynesis.
They give him treasures.
They receive revelation in a dream.
They refuse to return to Herod.
They leave another way.
And somehow I am supposed to pretend the religious identity of the Magi is irrelevant?
No.
If Matthew wanted generic rich foreigners, he had words available for generic foreigners.
He wrote MAGI.
The ancient Iranian priestly name.
And the same religious tradition associated with those Magi already had the resurrection architecture that appears late in Hebrew scripture.
That does not mean Matthew wrote:
“Congratulations, this baby is Zoroastrian.”
That is not the argument.
The argument is that the Iranian presence is literally standing at the beginning of the Jesus story while people keep telling me there is no Iranian–Jesus bridge.
There is one on the page.
Then Jesus grows up.
And we reach John 8.
This is where I stop caring what somebody’s theological system needs John to mean.
Read the argument.
They say:
We have one Father — God.
Jesus does not say:
“Correct.”
He says:
If God were your Father, you would love me.
IF.
Then he tells them who their father is.
You are of your father the devil.
And how does Jesus identify him?
Murderer.
Liar.
No truth in him.
Father of the Lie.
Then Jesus contrasts himself:
I tell you the truth.
Then:
Whoever is of God hears God’s words.
You do not hear because you are not of God.
This is a PATERNITY TRIAL.
Not genealogy.
Not race.
Not who possesses the correct temple membership card.
Paternity is being demonstrated through resemblance.
Truth tells you whose child you are.
The Lie tells you whose child you are.
Then John 8:54–55:
Jesus says his Father is the one they say is their God.
Exactly.
They say it.
Then Jesus says:
you do not know him.
I know him.
And if I said I did not know him, I would be a liar like you.
There is the word again.
LIAR.
The entire dispute circles back to Truth and Lie.
Their claim does not settle paternity.
Jesus says their conduct exposes their father.
He says they do not know his Father.
He says he does.
And he identifies himself with Truth.
Now ask the question everybody keeps trying to avoid:
What ancient God already fits this architecture?
A God whose identity is bound to Truth.
A God called the Father of Truth.
A God associated with Good Mind.
A religious system whose enemy is literally the Lie.
A tradition with moral judgment before Daniel.
A tradition with resurrection before Daniel.
A tradition with a final savior.
A tradition with the defeat of evil and renovation of creation.
A tradition historically present throughout the Persian world that ruled Judah.
A tradition whose priests appear at Jesus’ birth.
AHURA MAZDA.
That is why I say Mazda.
Not because the words sound pretty.
Not because I was born wanting this conclusion.
Because the timeline keeps pointing east.
Because Daniel is late.
Because resurrection is late in Hebrew scripture.
Because Persia is earlier.
Because the Magian resurrection tradition is earlier.
Because the Hebrew texts themselves document theological development.
Because divine deception becomes a problem.
Because the Lie gets pushed onto an enemy.
Because Jesus places himself on the side of Truth.
Because Jesus makes paternity a question of Truth versus Lie.
And because long before John wrote:
AŠA AND DRUJ WERE ALREADY STANDING OPPOSITE EACH OTHER.
Truth and the Lie.
Mazda and the enemy of Mazda.
So when somebody asks me:
“Diesel, who is Jesus’ Father?”
I am not starting with a church council.
I am not starting with a creed written centuries later.
I am not starting with Daniel pretending to stand in Babylon.
I am putting every document back where history puts it.
Then I follow the doctrine backward.
Resurrection?
Back through Daniel.
Back through Persia.
Truth against the Lie?
Back through John.
Back through Second Temple adversarial development.
Back to Aša and Druj.
The final restoration?
Back through Christian eschatology.
Back through Jewish apocalypse.
Back into the Iranian world.
The Magi?
I do not even have to trace them backward.
Matthew already put them at the cradle.
So here is Diesel’s charge:
You inherited the architecture.
You changed the names.
You moved the dates.
You put new theology into the mouth of an ancient Daniel.
You gradually removed the Lie from God and gave it to the Devil.
Then Jesus stood there talking about his Father as Truth while calling the opposing father the Father of the Lie.
And somehow the oldest religion in this entire chain—the religion whose God is bound to Truth and whose enemy is literally the Lie—is the one everybody tells me has nothing to do with it.
Bullshit.
There are too many footprints.
Too many dates.
Too many rewrites.
Too many Persian centuries.
Too many Iranian names crossing into Jewish literature.
Too much resurrection before Daniel.
Too much Daniel after Persia.
Too much movement in divine agency.
Too much Truth against the Lie.
And there is a fucking Magus standing at the cradle.
I do not need Jesus to pronounce the Persian words for me.
The architecture speaks.
AŠA.
TRUTH.
MAZDA.
And when Jesus says you know the Father by whether you belong to Truth or the Lie—
I know exactly which ancient Father I am looking at.
